Styles of modest swimwear
- Full burkini – a long tunic top with attached or separate swim hood, plus full-length trousers.
- Two-piece or three-piece sets – a separate top, leggings and swim hijab, so you can mix sizes.
- Swim dress with leggings – a longer, looser top for extra coverage.
- Swim hijab only – for pairing with a rash guard and swim leggings you already own.
What to look for
- Chlorine-resistant fabric. Polyester blends last longer in pools than standard nylon-elastane.
- Quick-dry and non-clingy. A slightly thicker or textured fabric and a longer tunic help the suit stay modest when wet.
- A secure hood. Look for an attached or pull-on hood that stays in place when you dive or swim underwater.
- UV protection. For outdoor swimming, a UPF 50+ rating adds sun protection.
- Weight. Very loose or heavy suits create drag; if you swim laps, choose a more fitted “sports” cut.
Sizing tips
Size by your hips and height rather than your usual dress size, and check the tunic length. If you are between sizes, a two-piece set lets you choose the top and bottoms separately.
